Bunion & Toe Care

Treatment for bunions, hammertoes, and painful toe joints — from conservative relief to modern corrective surgery when that is the right call.

A bunion is not just a bump. It is a progressive change in the alignment of the joint at the base of the big toe, and it usually gets worse over time rather than better. The same is true of hammertoes and other toe deformities. Not every bunion needs surgery — many are managed well for years with the right footwear and orthotics — but every painful one deserves a proper evaluation. Dr. Steven Royall will show you exactly what stage yours is at and where it is headed.

Conditions We Treat

Bunions (Hallux Valgus)

A widening bump at the base of the big toe that rubs, aches, and limits your shoe options.

Hammertoes & Claw Toes

Toes that bend and stay bent, developing corns on top from shoe pressure.

Big Toe Joint Arthritis

Stiffness and pain when pushing off, sometimes with a bump on top of the joint.

Neuromas & Ball-of-Foot Pain

Burning, numbness, or the feeling of a pebble under the forefoot.

Treatment Options

Footwear & Padding

Simple changes that often relieve rubbing and pressure right away.

Custom Orthotics

Support that takes load off the affected joint and can slow progression.

Injection & Anti-Inflammatory Care

Targeted relief for inflamed and arthritic toe joints.

Corrective Surgery

Modern bunion and hammertoe procedures, many minimally invasive, with realistic recovery timelines.

What to Expect at Your Visit

Weight-Bearing X-Rays

Imaging taken standing, because that is when the deformity shows its true angle.

Severity Assessment

You will see your own measurements and understand exactly what stage you are at.

Conservative Care First

We start with non-surgical options whenever they can realistically control your symptoms.

Straight Surgical Guidance

If surgery is the right answer, we explain the procedure, the downtime, and the recovery clearly.

When to Have a Bunion Evaluated

See a podiatrist if a bunion or toe hurts in normal shoes, if the bump is visibly growing, if a toe is starting to drift or overlap, or if you have developed corns and calluses from friction. Waiting until the joint is badly damaged limits your options. Call or text (801) 784-1111 to schedule an evaluation with Dr. Royall. We see patients from Lehi, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, and Bluffdale.
